Collapse ▲When Holly reached out to the Randolph County Center of N.C. Cooperative Extension, she was facing a significant obstacle. With major hand surgery scheduled, she was deeply concerned about her ability to work during her recovery. Typing would be nearly impossible for several weeks, and without alternative solutions, her professional and personal routines could be disrupted.
Holly scheduled a one-on-one Tech Tutoring session with Hannah, a Digital Skills Educator with the NC Digital Futures Program. During the session, Hannah introduced her to Siri—Apple’s voice-activated assistant—and demonstrated how Holly could control her MacBook using voice commands. From composing emails to opening applications, Holly quickly gained confidence in using voice tools to maintain her digital independence.
The support didn’t stop there. Weeks after her surgery, Holly followed up to report that she was adjusting well. With the new skills she acquired, she was able to continue working and staying connected, despite the physical limitations of her recovery.
This success story highlights the NC Digital Futures Program’s mission: empowering North Carolinians with the digital skills they need to thrive in a connected world.
