In Bertie County, a returning resident recently made a remarkable career pivot, moving from an entry-level retail position to a skilled trade in HVAC, thanks to the power of digital tools and personalized guidance.
At the heart of this transformation was Rebecca Jinnette, Digital Skills Educator in Bertie County. When the resident walked into the N.C. Cooperative Extension office looking for help with a scholarship application, Rebecca provided one-on-one support that made all the difference. Leveraging generative AI tools together, they crafted a compelling application for HVAC training. The result? A $7,400 scholarship—double the amount he initially hoped for.
This funding gave him the means to enroll in HVAC certification training and launch a new path in a high-demand skilled trade. But more than that, it gave him confidence and clarity about his future.
