Video Production
By the end of 2020 we expect over 20 videos featuring chefs and farmers from many different North Carolina counties to have been released, and many more are in the planning stages. One of our first videos takes place in Randolph County, and sheds light on the need to buy local in order to bring about economic prosperity in the community. “Growing together” is the title of this story about the symbiotic relationship between local restaurant The Table and pastured beef Back to Earth Farm. The Fork to Farmer team worked with the farm owners in the crafting of two genuine farm experiences available for purchase through the People-First Tourism website.
Our most recent video takes place in Nash County and showcases how two farmers, one specializing in sweet potatoes and row crop production (Rob Glover Farming), and the other a fruit and vegetable producer (HS Howell Farms), team up with a local brewery (Koi Pond Brewing Company) to create specialty brews. The film emphasizes the cross-marketing and other mutually supportive actions that enterprises within Rocky Mount Mills and farmers who sell at the Nash County Farmers Market take to grow the local economy there.
Fork to Farmer videos have been made in the following counties: Wake, Johnston, Randolph, Lenoir, Buncombe, Cleveland, Madison, Orange, Moore, Franklin, Rutherford, and Nash, and there is a call to action for more. Important partners include local economic development offices, tourism development authorities, and county Extension offices.
Vacationer-Supported Agriculture
The Vacationer-Supported Agriculture program, also part of the Fork to Farmer initiative, has built valuable partnerships in Columbus, Brunswick, and Pender Counties. Men and Women United for Youth and Families sources, aggregates, and delivers product to hungry beach vacationers in Brunswick County through its “Youth Ambassador” program. Bear Ridge Farms sources, aggregates, and delivers product to vacationers to Surf City and Wrightsville Beach.
The Vacationer-Supported Agriculture program promotes connections with private businesses as well, including local short-term rental companies and small businesses that act as host sites for bag pickup. Check out our online marketing partner, People-First Provisions, for more information about the Vacationer-Supported Agriculture program.
