Farm Stress Resources

N.C. Cooperative Extension and NC Agromedicine Institute would like to share the following resources available to assist farmers, their families, and employees with farm-related stress: The directory provides information on counseling and other mental health services across the state including phone and mobile crisis services. The directory also includes web-based publications and tools to help individuals cope better in their day-to-day lives.

Free Counseling Sessions

Farmer to Farmer

Want someone to talk with but not ready for a medical professional? Farmer to Farmer is a peer mentor program that pairs you with a farmer or farm family member who has been trained in peer support and farm stress response. This program is available at no cost and confidential. Opportunities for Training


The Institute offers several trainings tailored to agriculture to support continued learning around mental health and suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention. Courses currently offered include:

      • Question, Persuade, Refer (1 hour and 30 minutes)
      • Counseling Access for Lethal Means (1 hour and 30 minutes)
      • SafeTalk (4 hours)
      • Adult Mental Health First Aid (8 hours)
      • Youth Mental Health First Aid (8 hours)
      • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (16 hours)
