Ripple Effect Mapping

Ripple Effect Mapping or REM is a form of evaluation that captures the qualitative impacts or "ripples" of complex programs or collaboratives.  The method engages stakeholders to visually map the stories that result from the program.  It is an excellent way not only to document what has happened in a community as a result of the program but also to re-energize community members to continue their good work together.

REM incorporates the elements of Appreciative Inquiry, mind mapping, and qualitative data analysis.  A steering committee is formed to develop Appreciative Inquiry questions, which starts the 2 hour session.  Common themes are then developed around which participates will engage in telling "stories" to illustrate the impact of the program.
