In Bertie County, AI education became creative, joyful, and approachable.

On March 25, 2026, Rebecca Jinnette, Digital Skills Educator with N.C. Cooperative Extension, returned to BlueJay Recreation Center with Lucas Heller of Silver Hair Computer Care to deliver a session on AI image generators. Five participants attended the Senior Planet lecture and took part in a hands-on activity using AI tools to creatively modify photos.

The session quickly moved beyond instruction. Participants laughed, experimented, and learned by doing. For some, the main barriers were fear and lack of awareness about free AI image tools. The interactive format helped reduce that fear by giving participants a safe and supportive place to explore.

This story is a reminder that confidence often grows through creativity. When people can try new tools in a low-pressure environment, they begin to see technology as something they can use, shape, and enjoy.
